Based in Kobe, Japan, Runa Tanaka is a practitioner and instructor of Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea.
She works internationally as TEA MASTER SORYU, sharing the spirit of Chashitsu through tea gatherings, hospitality, education, and cultural exchange.

Vision & Mission
Vision
Mission
Chashitsu is not only a physical room for tea. It is a place where people set aside their titles, daily roles, and external differences, and meet one another with respect and sincerity.
By sharing this spirit across cultures, Runa seeks to create moments in which people can reconnect with nature, with others, and with themselves.
What is Chashitsu?
Chashitsu is a space created for the practice and sharing of Chado. Its simplicity invites people to step away from the speed, noise, and expectations of everyday life.
Within Chashitsu, attention is given to each movement, each object, each season, and each person present.
A bowl of tea becomes a meeting between host and guest, between human beings and nature, and between the outer world and the quiet center within.
The spirit of Chashitsu can be shared even beyond the walls of a traditional tea room. Wherever people meet with respect, sincerity, and care for the present moment, its essence can begin to take form.
The Spirit of Chashitsu
01
A moment to step away from noise and distraction, and to become fully present.
02
To meet each person without placing status, nationality, or social role above the human being before us.
03
To prepare and serve each bowl of tea with genuine attention and care.
04
To consider the guest, the season, the place, and the purpose of the gathering.
05
To notice the changing seasons and remember that human life is part of nature.
06
To release external expectations for a moment and return to one’s own quiet center.
Welcoming International Guests
For international guests visiting Japan, Chado offers a way to experience Japanese culture through more than explanation alone.
Guests are invited to observe the preparation of tea, learn the meaning behind selected movements and customs, and experience the quiet relationship between host, guest, season, and place.
Programs can be arranged for individuals, families, private groups, companies, educational institutions, and cultural organizations, with content adapted to each guest’s background, purpose, and available time.
